Kalim Siddiqui

Islamic Thinker and Writer

Kalim Siddiqui, a contemporary Islamic thinker and writer in Britain. He was the founder of the Muslim Parliament of Britain and also the founder of the Muslim Council of Britain. Siddiqui was one of the promoters of global Islamic unity. Along with a group of like-minded individuals at the Islamic Institute of Research and Planning, he carried out effective activities towards re-establishing Islamic civilization on the basis of global justice. He was deeply influenced by the Islamic Revolution and the thought of Ruhollah Khomeini. The BBC World Service claims that in 1989, a private meeting took place between Kalim Siddiqui and Mohammad Khatami at Mehrabad Airport, and in this meeting Kalim Siddiqui asked Mohammad Khatami that a great event must occur regarding Salman Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses. A few hours after this private meeting, Mohammad Khatami went to meet Ayatollah Khomeini, and on the same day the fatwa for the killing of Salman Rushdie was issued by Khomeini. Kalim Siddiqui passed away in 1996 in South Africa at the age of 65.
